One of the things I get asked a lot is how I handle overcast nights. Do I reschedule? Won’t it look different? To be honest, yes but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. While I love a good, golden sunset there is also a beauty in the overcast nights as well. The sky is usually more dramatic and visible, the colors are richer, and you have freedom to move around anywhere without worrying about directional lighting since overcast lighting is so soft and diffused. It’s been in the past year or so that I’ve found myself really loving them just as much as the golden nights and this session is prime example of why.
Meet the Miller Family. I met them for Christmas Minis a few years back and was so excited they decided to book a full outdoor session with me. They were all so easy going and fun to work with, it made my job easy! We spent the evening playing games and snuggling and I absolutely love the moments we created together. And as usual with my families, I am loving the choices Mom made with wardrobe. The darker blues go so well with the environment while also popping from the greenery. Everything coordinates well without being matching. And both dresses are beautiful and flow well, adding movement to their pictures. I especially love the linen dress as it adds texture and gives a vintage feel to their pictures.
This location has easily become one of my favorites this year. The rolling hills and views of the country and open sky are just gorgeous and I love the endless fields which give so much texture. So many moments from this session are some of my favorites this year.
So what do you think? Are you loving the richness and drama to an overcast night? Or prefer the golden sunsets?
