I have spent quite a bit of time this summer looking for new locations to use. While I love my usual ones, it’s always good to change it up and try new things. Shooting around the water especially was something I wanted to do more of. I love the way the light reflects off of it and the beautiful blue tones it adds.
I had scouted out this location a few days prior to the session, and thought Portage Lakes State Park would make the perfect backdrop. I had the whole session planned in my head with all these cool little spots I was excited to use. Well this session definitely threw me a curve ball, because shortly after arriving we discovered all of my spots were blocked off in preparation for the July 4th fireworks.
Thankfully we took it all in stride, and I’m so grateful these three were laid back and fun to work with. We had an absolute blast playing and splashing in the water, which made the super hot and humid night much more comfortable. What I love most about this session is all the sweet playful moments we captured. The ones of Mom twirling and snuggling with her little girl are probably some of my favorites ever. Add on an adorable baby with chubby baby rolls and it’s perfection. There is so much joy in these images that getting to revisit them for this blog post puts a big smile on my face. I hope it does for you too!
