It’s no secret I love outdoor, on location photography. I just love the outdoors period. There is something magical and beautiful about God’s creation and it creates the perfect canvas for portrait photography. Up until now, with the exception of newborn and lifestyle photography, I have exclusively been an outdoor photographer. I can’t deny though a need for studio portraits – specifically for times when the weather isn’t great, when babies are young and parents don’t want to take them outdoors, or when a child is reaching a milestone session and clients are looking for more of a studio look. When asked about studio sessions, I’ve always explained why I don’t offer them and then given clients suggestions to create a photography session outdoors that will meet their needs.
That is, up until today. I’ve held off on studio sessions because frankly it’s always felt a little stiff and boring to me. I love being outdoors in nature, chasing light, and shooting among the flowers and trees. But in the last couple of months, when winter becomes the slow season for outdoor photographers, I’ve been researching it more and more trying to figure out if there is a way to add it while still feeling like it fits my style. Well I was surprised to see there was a lot I liked and was drawn towards. My brain has been swirling with lots of different set ups and colors and I finally have decided to make the leap into studio photography.
For my studio set ups, I plan to be more on the minimalist side. I’m not someone that’s going to be very prop heavy. I want simple, where the main focus is your child and not a ton of props sitting around them. I plan to go for more earthy colors, soft neutrals, wood floors, and I have my eye on a few dreamy, floral backdrops too. While studio tends to be more posed, I still plan to incorporate lots of candid, lifestyle shots as well as play around with favorite stuffed animals, painting sessions, glitter, you name it! We can really have a lot of fun with these.
Will I still offer outdoor sessions? Absolutely! And there is no doubt they will still be my preference. But in an effort to meet more needs and offer some diversity, this is just an addition to what I already offer. As each set up will be custom tailored and planned for each session, studio sessions are not offered on my petite package due to the time and cost of set up. My standard session is a great fit for these however, and as a bonus, include a print credit so you walk away with great products as well! I also see these becoming a staple of my Watch Me Grow packages, for those wanting to capture that magical first year.
I have quite a few set ups and ideas up my sleeve that I am so excited to try out so contact me today if you are interested! I would love to design a custom set up just for you!
