As a photographer, I am a huge believer in hiring out my own family pictures. It’s so nice to relax and just be in the moment with my family and not worry about all the technical stuff going on behind the scenes. But this year has been one of those hard years and I realized I was either going to have to haul out my tripod and do it myself or miss out on this year entirely. Since my babies aren’t getting any smaller, out my tripod came.
I prepared myself for this to be a total disaster but honestly, I am completely surprised by how well it went. My kids have always been my why when it comes to photography, so getting to take a night and document all the things I never want to forget with them and just shoot for me was probably one of the best things I’ve done for myself creatively this entire year. When I look over all these images, I feel so much pride. I see our family, exactly as it is right now and so many moments I will want to remember for years to come. I see the silly expressions my kiddos make every day. I see my kiddos in their “ninja pose” because they are obsessed with ninjas this year. I see my youngest running into the frame as my husband and I are trying to take a moment for ourselves, which happens at pretty much every session I’ve ever done. I see my husband and I and how far our family has come as we celebrated ten years of marriage this summer. I see my daughter, kicking her little leg out as we stand facing the sunset, which is just so HER. I see joy and love and it makes my heart so happy.
I didn’t realize by this simple act of photographing my own family, it would inspire me so much to photograph yours and capture all these little moments and expressions in time as your kiddos change and grow.
So here we are, the Simmons Family. I hope you enjoy having a little peek into my family!
